Agent of Influence background

Agent of Influence

Inspired by a true story, the film "Agent of Influence" delves into the enigmatic circumstances surrounding the death of John Watkins, a renowned Canadian diplomat.

During the height of the Cold War, Canadian Ambassador James Watkins finds himself caught in a web of intrigue and suspicion. The CIA believes Watkins is secretly working for the Soviets, but lacks concrete evidence. As the CIA pressures the RCMP to take action against Watkins, internal Canadian factions take differing stances. Inspector David Present demands conclusive evidence before taking action, while Director General Inspector Chris Hayden offers a promotion to Inspector Diane Fletcher to arrest and convict Watkins. Meanwhile, Diane's brother Murray, in External Affairs, works to quietly remove Watkins from the ambassadorship without involving the RCMP or CIA. The fate of Watkins hangs in the balance as each faction pursues its own agenda, complicated by internal family dynamics.
