A Greek father and son duo, Mike and Tony Petrakis, operate a sponge-diving business off Florida's coast. After a robbery by Arnold and the Rhys brothers, Mike takes a risk to dive at the treacherous 12-mile reef, where he meets a tragic fate. Tony is left to carry on the business, now aided by an unexpected ally, Gwyneth Rhys.
