In the midst of World War I, Bosko, a doughboy, faces constant danger in the trenches. Despite the chaos, he takes a moment to miss his loved one, Honey, and kiss her picture. However, a cannonball destroys the photo, leaving Bosko enraged and determined to exact revenge. After several failed attempts to get back up, he's briefly lifted by a harmonica-playing horse and then gets his chance to be a hero when his hippo friend swallows a cannonball.
