Pilot Kate Gabriel is on her first probationary flight for the Sharpe family, a wealthy couple with a home furnishings empire. When a storm grounds their transatlantic flight, they are forced to land on Christmas Island, a small coastal town in Nova Scotia. Kate offers to help the Sharpes with their needs while they wait out the storm, including finding Christmas activities for their two children. This task is challenging for Kate, who is not a Christmas person and has no family of her own. She enlists the help of Oliver, the town's resident Christmas expert and air traffic controller, who also happens to be her old acquaintance. As they work together, they start to fall for each other, and their Christmas spirit is affected by whether they can make it to Switzerland by the 25th.
