Joanna Darrow is reconnecting with her daughter and granddaughter while working smaller cases at her law firm. She takes on a new client, Cassie Piper, who was accused of insider trading by her former firm, Herrimann, Corrigan and Herrimann, where Joanna used to work. Joanna's old firm is accused of malfeasance, and Cassie claims to have evidence of their manipulation. After a drive-by shooting at a meeting with Herrimann representatives, Cassie is charged with murder, and Joanna decides to take her corporate case while her daughter Claire takes her murder case. The case becomes complicated when Assistant DA Miles Strasberg, who is assigned to prosecute Cassie, suggests to Claire that they pause their personal relationship due to his past with Lt. Sarah Lang, who is leading the murder investigation.
