A desperate alien species forms an unlikely alliance with a government agent after they both discover a powerful biotechnology, leading to a thrilling and action-packed confrontation.

A massive star ship bearing a bedraggled alien population, nicknamed "The Prawns," appears over Johannesburg, South Africa in 1982. By 2010, the initial welcome has faded, and the refugee camp has deteriorated into a militarized ghetto called District 9, where the aliens are confined and exploited.
