An expedition led by Pedro de Ursúa in 1560-1561 searched for "El Dorado" in a territory that would later become Colombia. Three hundred men sold their property and souls to travel down the world's largest and least known river. The expedition became known for the rebellion of Lope de Aguirre against Philip II, king of Spain, and ended in tragedy, exposing human miseries.
