Enemy of Women background

Enemy of Women

A talented but troubled physician accepts a tutoring position with a wealthy family, only to find his darker inclinations slowly surface as he becomes increasingly manipulative towards the women in his care.

Dr. Paul Joseph Göbbels, a struggling playwright, takes a tutoring job with Herr Quandt to make ends meet. He becomes infatuated with actress Maria Brandt, daughter of Colonel Brandt, and makes a failed attempt to seduce her. Göbbels is banished from the house and finds a new passion in Hitler's German Socialist Party, becoming its propaganda head and earning the nickname "Scoundrel of Berlin". Meanwhile, he secretly boosts Maria's career, making her an overnight star and securing her a contract at the UFA studios. However, Maria's heart belongs to another, young doctor Hans Traeger, and she rejects Göbbels' advances.
