In Tokyo, an unlikely friendship blossoms between a faded Hollywood icon and a young outcast from society, bridging their vastly different worlds.

An American movie star, Bob Harris, arrives in Tokyo to film a whiskey commercial, feeling past his prime. He's stuck in an unsatisfying marriage, with his wife controlling his life from afar. Meanwhile, a young American woman, Charlotte, is in Tokyo with her photographer husband, feeling lost and disconnected. When they meet by chance, they form an unlikely friendship, bonding over their shared feelings of disconnection.
