Love Me or Leave Me

In the 1920s, Ruth Etting, a taxi dancer, dreams of becoming a renowned singer. Chicago gangster Marty Snyder falls for her and uses his connections to secure her singing opportunities, despite her initial reluctance to romance him. As Ruth's talent shines, she becomes increasingly dependent on Marty, who maintains a tight grip on her career through intimidation. However, Johnny Alderman, Marty's hired musical advisor and Ruth's secret admirer, tries to rescue her from her unhappy life.
