In 1993, Canadian General Romeo Dallaire was assigned to lead UN troops in Rwanda. When the 1994 genocide of Tutsis by Hutus began, Dallaire worked to aid Rwandans, negotiating with Tutsi rebels, the Hutu army, and Interhamwe militia.
