A group of US Army nurses, initially bound for Hawaii, are redirected to Bataan, Philippines after the Pearl Harbor attack. Led by Lt. Janet Davidson, they face daily bombardments, overwhelming numbers of wounded, and dwindling supplies, transforming from untested nurses to battle-hardened veterans. Romantic entanglements also unfold among the unit as they flee to Corregidor Island, where the Japanese assault continues.
