Film star Ted Crosley leaves Hollywood to attend Midland College, but his manager and friend try to stop him. Ted falls in love with Dean Worthington's daughter, Jean, and joins the college football team to help pay off the stadium debt. However, his on-screen heroics don't translate to real life, and he becomes a liability on the team. Ted's rival, Biff Gordon, sets him up with a fake fraternity initiation, leading Ted to believe Jean was involved and quitting school. But when the school learns of the hoax, Ted returns to help the team and win the big game, only to discover his mistake and leave again.
