In 1839, architect Jonathan Criswell visits his friend Roderick Usher at his decaying mansion, accompanied by his newlywed wife Jennifer. He finds Roderick and his sister Madeleine aged and tormented by a hyper-alertness of their senses. As Jonathan tries to help Roderick and Madeleine, he uncovers dark secrets about the Usher family's history of devil worship and a curse that has doomed the family to die young, at 37 years old.
