The Outside Chance of Maximilian Glick background

The Outside Chance of Maximilian Glick

A young Jewish man navigates his relationships and identity amidst cultural and religious differences.

In a 1950s Manitoba town, Maximilian Glick, a Jewish teenager, navigates his parents' overbearing expectations, including a piano instead of a bike and pressure to study for his Bar Mitzvah. When paired with a Christian girl for piano duets, his prejudiced parents forbid their relationship, and the death of his rabbi leads to the appointment of Rabbi Teitelman, an unconventional and fun-loving orthodox Jew. Together, Max and the rabbi must find a way to pursue their dreams and individual identities despite societal obstacles.
