A government research team, led by biologist Jim Tanner and including geneticist Margery Lansing, is shocked when anthropologist Henry Hallson discovers a team member with alleged psychic abilities, including telekinesis. But when Hallson is murdered, Tanner becomes the prime suspect and must clear his name by investigating the claims of paranormal powers with Lansing's help.
