George Hamilton, born George Stevens Hamilton on August 12, 1939, in Memphis, Tennessee, is a renowned actor, singer, and television personality. He is the son of Anne Lucille (Stevens) Potter Hamilton Hunt Spaulding, a Southern belle beauty, and her husband, George William "Spike" Hamilton, a touring bandleader.
As a young man, Hamilton moved extensively due to his father's work, attending Palm Beach High School, where he developed a taste for acting. He eventually moved to Los Angeles in the late 1950s, where he began his acting career.
MGM saw potential in Hamilton and cast him in several films, including "Crime & Punishment, USA" (1959),"Home from the Hill" (1960),"Angel Baby" (1961),and "Light in the Piazza" (1962). He received a Golden Globe award for "Most Promising Newcomer" and was nominated for "Best Foreign Actor" by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
Hamilton's early success was followed by a series of films, including "All the Fine Young Cannibals" (1960),"By Love Possessed" (1961),"Where the Boys Are" (1960),and "Looking for Love" (1964). He also appeared in several biopics, such as "Act One" (1963),"Your Cheatin' Heart" (1964),and "Evel Knievel" (1971).
In the 1970s, Hamilton's career slowed, and he began to focus on his fun-loving, idle-rich charm, making headlines as a handsome escort to the rich and famous. He was engaged to actress Susan Kohner and dated President Lyndon B. Johnson's daughter, Lynda Bird Johnson.
Hamilton's comeback came in the form of the disco-era Dracula spoof "Love at First Bite" (1979),which he executive-produced. He went on to star in several more parody films, including "Zorro: The Gay Blade" (1981).
In recent years, Hamilton has appeared in a string of TV shows and films, including "Dynasty" (1981),"The Family" (2003),"Dancing with the Stars" (2005),"Rough Riders" (1997),"Very Cool Christmas" (2004),and "Swiped" (2018). He has also had recurring roles on several TV series, including "Nash Bridges," "Pushing Daisies," "Hot in Cleveland," and "Grace and Frankie."
