The Sturgeon Queens background

The Sturgeon Queens

A century-old Jewish immigrant family's legacy is explored in "Russ & Daughters", a documentary showcasing four generations of a family's dedication to maintaining a beloved Lower East Side institution, a famous lox and herring shop.

Four generations of a Jewish immigrant family create Russ and Daughters, a Lower East Side lox and herring emporium that endures and flourishes. The documentary features interviews with 100-year-old and 92-year-old daughters, as well as prominent enthusiasts like Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, and chef Mario Batali. Instead of a traditional narrator, the film uses six elderly fans of the store, reading the script in a style reminiscent of a Passover Seder.
