The discovery of gold in California sets off a chaotic chain reaction as opportunistic outlaws seize the moment to exploit the lawlessness and mayhem that ensues.

The discovery of gold in California in 1848 brings a surge of gold seekers, disrupting the Guerrero family's life on Rancho Chico. Dermod D'Arcy, with his partner Bejabbers, enters his fast horse, Pathfinder, into a horse race, winning the ranch and falling in love with Don José's daughter, Josephita. As the town grows rich, a bandit chief forces Josephita's brother Romauldo to join his gang, planning to loot the town's gold. Dermod overhears the plan and warns the town, leading to the gang's capture, trial, and sentencing.
