After his father's sudden death, Ellison, a recent high school graduate, loses his sense of security and struggles to find stability, bouncing from friend to friend and eventually ending up on the streets. Despite his desperation, he's rejected by the Army due to his asthma, and is forced to turn to his charismatic neighbor Zee, who has risen from poverty through his own entrepreneurial spirit.
