A 10-year-old Saudi Arabian girl named Wadjda lives in a conservative suburb of Riyadh. She's entrepreneurial and always pushing boundaries, but her desire for a green bicycle leads to challenges. After a fight with a neighborhood boy, Wadjda decides to raise the money herself, but her mother refuses due to societal norms. Wadjda tries various schemes, but is caught and loses hope. Then, she learns of a Quran recitation competition with a cash prize, and devotes herself to memorization and recitation, transforming her image and becoming a model pious girl.
