Two competitive pilots, Jerry and Cass, have a long history of rivalry. Jerry, a former submarine service member, joins Class 61 at Pensacola to become a flying cadet, just like Cass, a respected Naval aviator. During training, Jerry falls for Cass' fiancée, Irene. After overcoming air sickness, Jerry earns his wings, but Cass suffers a career-ending injury in a crash.
