A Catholic priest, Father James Costello, struggles with his faith after a botched exorcism. He is drawn back into a mystery involving a satanic cult, which leads him to confront his old adversary, Sheriff Tormada. Tormada, a complex and troubled individual with a history of violence, uses his position to torment Costello, who has found acceptance for his sexuality. Meanwhile, a mysterious organization hires a pair of Bosnian witch hunters to rid the town of its supernatural problems.
