Charles Richmond, a wealthy and powerful man, treats others with contempt, including his black servants and his nephew Tony, who holds a grudge against him for his parents' deaths. Charles has revised his will, leaving most of his money to charity, and is now wheelchair-bound and reliant on a constant nurse. Tony sees an opportunity to become the next Mrs. Richmond and manipulate Charles into leaving his fortune to them.
