Thomas "Sean" Connery was born on August 25, 1930, in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland. His mother, Euphemia Maclean, was a cleaning lady, and his father, Joseph Connery, was a factory worker and truck driver. He had a brother, Neil Connery, a plasterer in Edinburgh, who was eight years younger.
Before becoming an actor, Sean had various jobs, including a milkman, lorry driver, laborer, artist's model for the Edinburgh College of Art, coffin polisher, and bodybuilder. He also joined the Royal Navy but was later discharged due to medical problems.
At the age of 23, Sean had a choice between becoming a professional soccer player or an actor. He chose acting, citing it as one of his more intelligent decisions.
