The powerful Queen Cleopatra, grieving the loss of her lover Julius Caesar, seeks a new alliance with his likely successor Mark Antony, and their intense romance sparks a catastrophic war with Octavius, Caesar's rival heir.

Octavius Caesar, Mark Antony, and Lepidus form a triumvirate, ruling the Roman Empire. Antony's affair with Queen Cleopatra in Egypt leads to tension with his wife Fulvia's death. Caesar and Lepidus worry about Pompey's growing power, while Antony feels compelled to return to Rome. Caesar and Antony eventually reconcile through Antony's marriage to Caesar's sister Octavia. However, Cleopatra remains jealous and plots to win Antony back.
