After the Civil War, notorious outlaw Bascomb and his gang attempt to rob a bank, only to be ambushed by waiting officers. Bascomb and the ruthless Yancey escape and join a Mormon wagon train heading to Utah, where they discover a hidden cache of gold. As they plan to seize the treasure and flee, Bascomb begins to soften under the influence of a young girl who has taken a liking to him.
