Charlie St. Cloud, a golden high school boy, had a promising future ahead of him, with a scholarship to Stanford and a spot on a prestigious yacht sailing team. However, after his brother Sam's death, Charlie's life took a drastic turn. He became consumed by guilt and abandoned his plans to attend Stanford, instead taking a menial job as a graveyard keeper. He spends his days tending to the grave of his friend Sully, who died in Vietnam, and his nights continuing the baseball practice he promised Sam. When Charlie meets a young sailor, he's tempted to start living again, but his guilt over Sam's death holds him back.
