Escapade in Japan background

Escapade in Japan

A young American boy's miraculous survival of a plane crash at sea sets off a chain of events when a Japanese fisherman's heroic rescue attempt leaves him the sole survivor of the disaster.

American Dick Saunders has just transferred to Tokyo with his wife Mary and their son Tony, who will join them later. However, Mary decides to take Tony back to the US, leaving Dick behind. The family's marital issues take a backseat when they learn that Tony's flight has been diverted to the middle of the ocean. Tony is rescued by a Japanese fishing family, the Tanakas, and befriends their son Hiko. When Hiko overhears his father planning to contact the police, he and Tony flee, believing the police will take Tony away. Meanwhile, Dick and Mary head to the fishing village, while the two boys try to make their way to Tokyo to reunite with their parents.
