A lifelong bachelor harbors a secret infatuation with his neighbor, who devotes herself to her beloved pet tortoise, leaving his feelings unreciprocated.
Lonely aging bachelor Mr. Hoppy lives in a London flat and has a crush on his neighbor Mrs. Silver, who is devoted to her pet tortoise. Hoppy tries to win her heart by creating the illusion that her tortoise is growing, using a series of increasingly large tortoises.
