Kamal Haasan plays Guna, a mentally unstable individual who undergoes treatment at a Hyderabad asylum. Guna's troubled past includes a strained relationship with his father and a mother who is a prostitute. In his mind, he creates a fictional character named Abirami, a goddess who is destined to marry him on a full moon night. Upon release from the asylum, Guna becomes convinced that Abirami is real and sets out to find her.
