Morgan and Todd travel across the country to follow racing events when Morgan meets a six-year-old orphan, Janet, who has run away from an orphanage in search of a father figure. Morgan finds himself "adopted" by Janet and discovers that her words and actions bring him good luck in his betting. After initially returning Janet to the orphanage, Morgan kidnaps her and decides to use her as a way to make a profit. However, things take a turn when Morgan is forced to marry Madge Perry, a woman connected to the Irish cop who is investigating Janet's disappearance. As Morgan's fortunes rise with the acquisition of a horse and a large bankroll, he and Todd face a federal court trial for kidnapping Janet.
