McHale's Navy Joins the Air Force background

McHale's Navy Joins the Air Force

Ensign Parker goes undercover as an Air Force pilot to take down the Japanese fleet, leaving McHale and the PT-73 crew to watch from the sidelines.

Captain Binghamton's torpedo boat, PT-116, develops a mysterious leak and sinks, forcing him to use PT-73 instead. The crew, led by Ensign Parker, befriends the crew of a Russian merchant vessel and gets caught up in a whiskey-smuggling scheme. When two NKVD officers arrive, Parker is mistaken for a spy and given the rank of Army captain. He accidentally triggers an air raid warning, leading to a Japanese air attack, and is promoted to Army major.
