Tom Cameron, aka The Lone Rider, and his friend Fuzzy Jones rescue a wounded man, who turns out to be Smoky Hammer, owner of the B-X Ranch. Smoky's father was murdered, leaving behind a daughter, Tess, who is being raised by the ranch foreman. However, Smoky's return sparks a plot by Gil Harkness and Sid Clayton to take control of the ranch, leading to a series of events involving cattle tolls, robberies, and a surprise revelation about Tess's family.
