Agnes, desperate and pregnant, asks Jerry to marry her, but he refuses. She marries Dodie instead, who offers a home for her child, but their son suffers abuse. Jerry returns, and a confrontation with Dodie ends with Agnes shooting him in self-defense. She's acquitted, and the film concludes with Agnes, Jerry, and their son reunited as a happy family.
