In 1859, St. Joseph, Missouri is split by a railroad track, dividing the wealthy and poor. Ann Arnesen, daughter of Pony Express owner Michael Arnesen, arrives from the wealthy side. Michael hires Sam Cotton to protect his pony line from hostile Indians and Peter Marquette's stagecoach line gang, who fear losing contracts to the pony riders.
