Amelia Tate, a small-town Oregon actress, gets a chance to star in a remake of Roman Holiday after her sister encourages her to audition. She's cast as Princess Anna alongside movie star Jonathan Lyman, but the female lead's identity is kept secret until the press conference. Meanwhile, freelance journalist Philip Hamilton is in Rome working on his novel and assigned to write about the mysterious unknown actress. As he digs deeper, he discovers Amelia, who is hesitant to share her life story, fearing exposure of her family. Philip gives her editorial control over the story, and they start to fall for each other while he pieces together her life. However, their romance is threatened by Vivien, the editor, who never agrees to Amelia's demands, and other Roman journalists fighting for the story.
