His mother, Archduchess Sophie, has arranged for him to marry her niece Princess Helene of Bayern, and the engagement is to be announced at the ball. However, Franz Joseph's life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Princess Elisabeth, or Sissi, who is a free spirit and the opposite of what his mother had planned.
