Farmer Slim joins a group of workers building power lines and befriends Foreman Red. When they're fired for protecting their boss, they head to Chicago, where they spend their money and visit Red's girlfriend, Cally. Cally falls for Slim, while Red is hesitant to marry her due to his job's dangers. When Slim is stabbed by a foe of Red's, Cally nurses him back to health and proposes marriage if he quits working. However, Slim refuses and joins Red on a treacherous job to keep the power on during a blizzard on the East coast.
