Ted Brooks, a Miami dentist, inherits a pack of rowdy sled dogs and a property from his recently deceased birth mother in Alaska. Instead of a large sum of money, Ted receives the unexpected inheritance. Despite the dogs' initial hostility towards him, Ted decides to keep them and enters the Arctic Challenge, a local sled dog race, to outdo a mountain man who also wants the dogs.
