A renowned chess champion's world is disrupted when he's mistakenly accused of being a spy and taken captive in a Parisian SS detention center, setting him on a treacherous journey through the Spanish Civil War and Nazi-occupied France.

Diego Padilla, a chess champion, wins the Spanish Championship in 1934 and meets Marianne Latour, a French journalist, leading to a romantic relationship and the birth of their daughter. However, their lives take a dramatic turn when Diego is accused of spying by the Germans after fleeing to France with Marianne and imprisoned in an SS prison.
