Brooklyn 1944. The story follows the unlikely friendship between late teens Danny Saunders and Reuven Malter, two Jewish teenagers from different backgrounds. Despite their proximity and shared faith, they barely know each other until an incident brings them together. As they learn more about each other's lives, they discover their differences: Danny is destined to become a rabbi, while Reuven has modern sensibilities and a widowed father who's a Zionist academic. Their fathers' opposing views on the future of Judaism threaten to tear them apart, but as they grow into adulthood, they must navigate their own paths and the consequences of their friendship.
