The ascension of Commodus to the Roman Empire is threatened when his father, Emperor Marcus Aurelius, passes away, leading to a fierce struggle for dominance.

The wise Emperor Marcus Aurelius convenes a meeting with local governors to secure peace and prosperity in the Roman Empire, having conquered the Germanic tribes. He decides to pass on the throne to General Livius instead of his corrupt son Commodus, who is his logical successor. However, Commodus' ambition and treachery lead to Aurelius' poisoning, paving the way for a new era of oppression and decline.
