The House on 56th Street

Peggy Martin, a high-society showgirl, leaves her wealthy partner London Fiske to be with her true love Monte Van Tyle. They start a family, but their happiness is cut short when Monte is deployed to the army and killed in action, leaving Peggy to raise their daughter Eleanor alone.

Peggy Martin, a showgirl and former mistress, marries Monte Van Tyle and has a baby, Eleanor. After Monte's death in World War I, Peggy is blackmailed by her former lover, London Fiske, and is later convicted of murder after Fiske's accidental death. Twenty years later, Peggy is released from prison and meets gambler Bill Blaine, who gets her a job at a gambling house on 56th street. When Eleanor, now a gambler herself, kills Bill, Peggy takes the blame.
