In the 1880s, a small town holds an election to choose its new sheriff after the retiring sheriff's departure. Two candidates emerge: Gregg Leech, a young man encouraged by the retiring sheriff, and John W. Harmon, the town's lawyer. Despite initial hesitation, Gregg accepts the nomination and wins the election. However, he soon faces challenges as some townsfolk still harbor resentment towards him, questioning his bravery and manhood. Gregg's test of character arrives when three hired killers arrive in town, seeking to eliminate him. With no support from the townsfolk, Gregg must find the courage to face the killers and prove himself as a capable lawman.
