Iraq War-era U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Shane Matthews, a skilled sniper, is deployed to investigate a desert pipeline construction site with his spotter, Sergeant Allen Isaac. After a 22-hour wait, they confirm the site is clear, but Matthews is suddenly shot by an Iraqi sniper. Isaac attempts to rescue him, but is also wounded and left with a damaged radio and destroyed water bottle.
