Cleveland 1951. Pre-med student Artie Shoemaker trades in his medical dreams for a life in the theater, much to his working-class parents' dismay. Despite having no experience, he lands a job as the props man at the Kempton Hills Park Theater, a summer stock venue. There, he's mentored by resident leading man Harry Crystal, who's chasing bigger and better acting roles. Artie's journey, including his romance with lead dancer Ramona, helps him decide if a life in the theater is truly for him.
