Charlie Murray, a 21-year-old struggling to find her way after a skin cancer scare and her father's death, tries her hand at stand-up comedy to connect with her past and find her voice. Despite an initial disaster at an open mic night, she finds a mentor in Bob Carpenter, a former edgy comedian who gave up the spotlight due to personal issues. As they work together, Charlie learns the ins and outs of stand-up from Bob, while Bob finds a new purpose in helping Charlie achieve her dreams and confronting his own life struggles.
