In the aftermath of World War II, BBC radio correspondent Mark Trevor and American newspaper publisher Carter Reynolds vie for the affection of foreign correspondent Sara Scott, who is torn between her love for Mark and her engagement to Carter. As Mark's past is slowly revealed, Sara discovers that he is married and that his true intentions are unclear.
