A long-standing vendetta between two bootlegging families in 1920s Arkansas rural reaches a critical stage, threatening to destroy the harmony of their communities.

In 1921, a 10-year-old boy witnesses his bootlegger father's murder by a rival gang member. Twelve years later, the grown man and his partner-in-crime continue their moonshining and bootlegging operations, working for their grandfather's distillery, and engage in a bitter feud with a rival family.
